Bunmi Olaye is a Nigerian born fashion designer living in the United Kingdom. Bunmi KoKo was founded in March 2009. The name Bunmi KoKo was inspired by the designer’s first name ‘Bunmi’ (meaning ‘God gave me’) and the affectionate nickname given by her partner, Francis Udom; “KoKo” (meaning “my other half’), in Efik. The two phrases joined to mean, "God gave me my other half.

Bunmi Koko is an emerging luxury fashion and lifestyle brand in London with Scottish/Nigerian Heritage that specialise in women’s ready-to-wear, couture, bridal & evening wear; with a growing portfolio of products ranging from menswear, kidswear, lingerie, accessories, eyewear, swimwear and footwear and beauty products. The illustration side of the business continues to grow as well creating hand drawn gift cards, book covers, CD covers, movie posters, editorials, advertising, and special projects. 

The mix of art and fashion is key to the brands philosophy and all products and services aim to have the company slogan ingrained in them, which is ‘Luxuria, Art, Elegans’ (luxury, art, elegance). Bunmi Koko design aesthetic is to create elegant, sculptural shapes, whilst mixing classic looks, from different eras with contemporary twists. Excellence is reflected through innovative designs, fabric quality and meticulous finishing thereby creating both couture and ready- to- wear garments with impeccable detailing.

Innovation and print technology is a key strength within Bunmi Koko and the amalgamation of Bunmi and Francis’s skills has resulted in a fusion of engineering and fashion which has led to the production of innovative, structured designs which to date have caught the attention of a growing list of celebrities including former Spice Girl Mel B, Michelle Obama, Members of Destiny’s Child and top fashion writers like award-winning Fashion Director of The Telegraph, Hilary Alexander.

In its second year, the Bunmi Koko brand became one of the most talked about emerging brands. Adding to the much garnered media and press attention worldwide, Bunmi and Francis received a personal invitation to meet with The Great Nelson Mandela at his home after winning the International Emerging Designer of the Year Award during the Fifa World Cup in South Africa, in July 2010.
