DELL
Dell was founded by Michael Dell in the year 1984. Michael Dell was a student at the University of Texas at Austin when he invented Dell in his off-campus dormitory room. His aim was to sell IBM PC-compatible computers built from stock components and he also wanted to sell computers at affordable rates and break the monopoly that IBM was exercising over the market. 
Michael started trading in the belief that by selling personal computer systems directly to customers, PC's Limited (the original name of the company) could better understand customers' needs and provide the most effective computing solutions to meet those needs. So he started off by buying computer parts in wholesale, assembling them and selling them via mail order. 
In 1984, he registered the company as Dell Computer Corporation and dropped out of college to pursue his business full-time. The principle of the company was to provide computers at the lowest price possible. This was achieved by removing the retailer in between and using the low-cost direct marketing method. In the first full year of business, Dell was able to achieve sales of $6 million which jumped to $40 million in the very next year. 
Dell is an American multinational computer technology company based in Round Rock, Texas, United States, that develops, sells, repairs, and supports computers and related products and services. Named after its founder, Michael Dell, the company is one of the largest technological corporations in the world, employing more than 103,300 people in America and around the world. The Dell Computer Company is one of the great success stories of our time.
 
Dell sells personal computers (PCs), servers, monitors,  data storage devices, network switches, software, computer peripherals, HDTVs, cameras, printers, MP3 players. The firm also has moved into the consumer electronics arena, offering LCD televisions, projectors, and other products and electronics built by other manufacturers.  
Dell was a pure hardware vendor for much of its existence, but with the acquisition in 2009 of Perot Systems, Dell entered the market for IT services. The company has since made additional acquisitions in storage and networking systems, with the aim of expanding their portfolio from offering computers only to delivering complete solutions for enterprise customers.
