Electrolux was founded by Axel Wenner-Gren on August 1, 1919.  The headquarter is located in Stockholm, Sweden. Two years later Electrolux launched its Model V vacuum, a unique design for the period that ditched the heavy stand-up model in favor of a unit that sat on the floor on thin metal runners. The company opened its first U.S. vacuum plant in 1931 in Old Greenwich,Connecticut ,one of the first Electrolux factories outside of Sweden.
Electrolux went on to roll out a refrigerator with a spring-assisted door, an early food processor and a dishwasher nicknamed "the round tin" in 1959 — the first countertop dishwasher. It was a hit in large part because in the 1950s, the dishwasher could be installed on the countertop without renovations.
In the 1960s, the company produced several refrigerator and freezer models, as well as the Luxomatic vacuum cleaner, the first of a new generation of vacuum cleaners that included a cord winder, self-sealing paper dust bags and an indicator displaying when the bag is full.
In 1984, Electrolux bought Italian appliance manufacturer Zanussi. Nine years later, in 1993, the company produced refrigerators free of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), a chemical tied to ozone depletion.
