Gap was founded on August 21, 1969 by Doris and Donald fisher with the thought of creating a store where there will be ease in looking for jeans that would fit because they couldn't get one for themselves

over the years, the company has grown internationally and globally as they now have five brands under the company's name which are; 

  • Gap

  • Banana republic

  • Old navy

  • Athleta

  • Intermix.

As at December 2017, the company had a total number of 135,000 employees.

The company is also now available in 90 countries worldwide including Nigeria on Deluxe.com.ng through 3,300 company-operated stores, they have almost 400 franchise stores and 
e-commerce sites, the company does not intend to stop here as they are still making money moves in order to grow more.

In 1969, Doris and Donald fisher opened the first Gap store, Doris and Donald acquired their first brand which is Banana republic brand in 1983.

Gap Inc. opened the first Gapkids store in Calfornia in 1986. In 1987 Gap opened their first store outside united states of America, the store was opened in London.

Gap inc. opened one of its brands in Colma, California which is Old Navy in 1994, the company went digital, they decided to create their own online shopping website in 1997.

In 2008, Athleta brand was acquired to the other brands acquired by the company.

Gap Inc opened a new store in China in the year 2014

Gap is known for the production of wears for women, men, boys, girls, toddlers and babies. They are popular for the production of maternity wears, Shoes, Bags, Socks, bras, undies, sleep wears, jeans, pants, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits, shorts, skirts, sweaters, T-shirts, Tops, sweatshirts, outwears and blazer, swimwear etc. Gap basically produces wears for everyone irrespective of their sex, size, height.
