A photocopy machine  also known as a copier or copy machine is a machine that makes paper copies of documents and other visual images quickly and cheaply. Photocopying is widely used in the business, education, and government sectors. Photocopying machine is also any device used for producing copies of text or graphic material by the use of light, heat, chemicals, or electrostatic charges.

TYPES OF PHOTOCOPY MACHINE

A photocopy machine also known as a copier machine is a device that makes paper copies of documents and other visual images cheaply and quickly.

The most common copy machines in the market include:

Mono copiers

These are copiers that use only one color toner, usually black. These machines come in different size ranges from low-end, low volume copiers to high-speed, high-volume devices that can more than 100 pages per minute.

Color copiers

These can copy in color as well as black.  Color copiers used for the business purpose usually have four drums and for toner cartridges or more which contain the four primary colors; Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, and Black. When these colors are mixed, all other colors can be created.

Network Copiers

These machines can be connected to the office network and allow remote printing, PC Faxing, as well as Scan-to functionality. Most digital copiers and multifunctional have a built-in network card, or it is availed separately.

Multi-functional Copiers

These are Copiers that perform more tasks than just copying. These copiers perform tasks such as printing, copying, scanning and faxing. They additionally can print from portable devices like laptops through a USB or wireless connection.  They also have a document finishing option such as booklet folding with saddle stitch and stapling.

Desktop Copiers

Desktop copiers are designed for A4 paper or smaller size only. They are simply models of smaller copiers or even multi-function copiers that have been designed to be placed on the desk.

FEATURES OF A PHOTOCOPY MACHINE

REDUCTION

Reducing the size of the copy compared with the original. Most models come with preset reductions for standard business-sized paper. A zoom feature allows you to choose a reduction in one percent increments.

ENLARGEMENT

Magnifying the size of the copy compared with the original. As with the reduction feature, preset and zoom controls allow varied enlargement settings.

VARIABLE MAGNIFICATION AND REDUCTION

Magnifying or reducing by one percent increments. Instead of offering you only preset percentages, this feature allows you to indicate the exact percent of magnification or reduction that 

you need, within ranges provided.

AUTO-MAGNIFICATION

Automatically selecting the appropriate reduction or magnification ratio. A copier with the auto-magnification feature senses the size of the original and selects the appropriate ratio that will produce a copy on the size of copy paper the operator selects.

AUTO-PAPER-SELECTION

Automatically selecting the appropriate size of copy paper. With this feature the copier senses the size of the original and selects the appropriate size of paper for each original. 

IMAGE SHIFT

Margin adjustments from the original to the copy. Copiers with an image shift feature can provide larger or smaller margins on the copy without physically moving the original. This feature is useful in preventing image areas from being lost when hole-punched paper is used for the copy paper.

EDITING

Electronic manipulation of the copy image. Types of editing include masking, trimming, centering, transferring and positive/negative copying. The operator may use a keyboard, an editing board with an electronic stylus or a mouse device to access editing commands available on the copier.

BORDER ERASE

Eliminating border shadows. When copying books, magazines or other heavy materials, unwanted border shadows or three-hole punch marks may occur at the edges of the copy frame. The border erase feature deletes these unsightly marks.

IMAGE OVERLAY

Capability of automatically superimposing two originals onto one copy.

AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE

Automatic scanning of the original to determine the correct exposure setting. All copiers with this feature allow the operator to manually override the automatic exposure setting.

PAUSE/INTERRUPT

A feature that allows a job to be interrupted before it is completed. The pause/interrupt feature lets the operator stop the copying process to run another copying job without having to reprogram the original job.
